ACL Surgery Needed

ACL Surgery Required

Hey everyone,

I tore my ACL back in January and need to have surgery as soon as possible.

My job’s insurance starts on April 1st, but it has a high deductible of $8,000 with the S535BCE Blue Choice Preferred Silver PPOSM 105 plan. Since I’m eligible for open enrollment, I’m checking out options on healthcare.gov and would appreciate any recommendations for insurance that will effectively cover my surgery and physical therapy. Thank you!

  1. Hi there! I’m sorry to hear about your ACL injury. It’s great that you’re looking into your insurance options. Given your situation, here are a few tips:

    1. Short-Term Health Plans: Since you need surgery soon, you might consider a short-term health insurance plan that can cover your surgery and rehabilitation. These plans often have a quicker application and approval process.

    2. Marketplace Insurance: Since you’re eligible for open enrollment, check out the plans on healthcare.gov that offer lower deductibles or better coverage for surgeries. Look specifically for plans that include orthopedic and physical therapy services.

    3. Cost-Sharing Reduction Plans: If your income qualifies, you may be eligible for cost-sharing reductions, which can lower your out-of-pocket expenses.

    4. Check Provider Networks: When reviewing plans, make sure to check if your preferred surgeon and physical therapist are in-network, as this can save you a lot of money.

    5. Consult with Your Orthopedic Surgeon: Sometimes, your surgeon’s office can guide you on insurance issues, as they deal with these situations regularly.

    6. Ask About Payment Plans: If you go with your current insurance plan, see if the hospital or surgeon offers payment plans to help manage the high deductible.

Make sure to compare the plans carefully before deciding. Good luck with your surgery and recovery!
