Car Insurance Autopay Overcharge Issue
I initiated my car insurance policy in September, paying around $200 as a down payment and then about $140 monthly until this month. However, without any prior notice, the company has been deducting more than what was indicated in my paperwork. Each payment doesn’t even match the previous one and exceeds the original agreed amount. While I received the initial quote over the phone, I completed all necessary paperwork in person.
Now I’ll need to wait until Monday to bring my receipts and address this issue. Given that the insurance company has my banking information, should I speak to my bank about this matter before visiting the office? Is there a chance I could be reimbursed, even though the policy has technically ended?
Lesson learned: I really should be checking my bank statements as diligently as my emails!
It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation. It’s definitely a good idea to talk to your bank about the unauthorized charges. They may be able to help you dispute those transactions or freeze your account to prevent any further overcharges.
When you visit the insurance company, bring all your documentation, including your original quote, payment receipts, and any communication you’ve had with them. This will strengthen your case when discussing the overcharges.
As for reimbursement, you may have a chance, especially if you can prove that the charges are inconsistent with what you agreed upon. Customer service departments usually want to keep their clients satisfied, so they may be willing to rectify the situation.
Going forward, keeping a close eye on your bank statements will definitely help you spot any discrepancies earlier. Good luck, and I hope you’re able to resolve this issue!
