Car Insurance Claim

Car Insurance Claim Inquiry

I had an accident about six months ago and filed a claim. The insurance company issued a check made out to both me and a nearby body shop. The shop informed me that it would take three weeks to get the parts. However, before that timeframe was up, I was called out of town for work. Now, six months later, the repairs are still not completed. Am I still entitled to my claim? Do claims have an expiration date?

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Generally, insurance claims do not expire immediately, but there are time limits and conditions that can affect your right to the claim. Since you received a check, it’s important to check the terms associated with that payment—usually, they specify how long you have to use the funds for repairs.

If the check is still valid and you haven’t deposited it yet, you may still have the right to use it for the repairs. However, if the insurance company has a policy about time limits for the completion of repairs, you might want to check with them about the status of your claim now that it has been six months.

It would be a good idea to contact your insurance company’s claims department for specific guidance on your situation. They can clarify if there are any limitations or actions required on your part to ensure you can still use your claim.
