Experience with Direct Auto ignoring your insurance company?

Has anyone else dealt with Direct Auto ignoring your insurance company?

I had an accident in May 2024, and the other driver was insured by Direct Auto. Geico attempted to contact them for months but received no response. Here’s what happened:

  1. November 2024: Direct Auto claimed the at-fault driver was uninsured.

  2. November 2024: Geico made an effort to reach out to the at-fault driver, but there was no reply.

  3. December 2024: Geico resorted to sending the subrogation request to a collections agency.

  4. January 2025: I got a letter from Direct Auto asking me to complete an accident report form. Confused, I called Geico to find out why they weren’t handling this. Geico followed up, but still, Direct Auto never responded.

  5. February 2025: Direct Auto sent me another letter (with my name spelled incorrectly), stating that I wasn’t insured with them (no surprise there). Same day, I received yet another letter asking for an accident report, but this one was formatted differently from the first.

Has anyone had a similar experience with Direct Auto? I honestly don’t see how they plan to settle my claim, especially since all I’m owed is the deductible. Their disorganization seems to be hindering my progress in resolving this.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with Direct Auto. It sounds incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with the aftermath of an accident. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for insurance companies to be slow to respond or to be disorganized, which can complicate matters further.

From what you described, it seems like Direct Auto is not handling the situation properly. It could be helpful to keep thorough documentation of all communications with both Geico and Direct Auto, including dates, times, and the names of any representatives you spoke with. This might strengthen your case if you need to escalate the issue.

You might consider contacting your state’s insurance commission or seeking legal advice if the situation doesn’t progress. Sometimes, filing a formal complaint can prompt more action from the insurance company. Additionally, it might be worth reaching out to Geico again to see if they can provide any assistance in getting a more concrete response from Direct Auto.

Stay persistent, and hopefully, you can find a resolution soon. Good luck!
