GAP SUCKS!

Frustration with GAP Insurance!
My Nissan was totaled on November 8, 2024, and my personal insurance settled their portion in December 2024. However, I’m still facing a $2,300 loan balance with Santander. I purchased GAP insurance through SafeGuard, and as of March 2025, my claim is still listed as INAUDIT, even though I submitted all the required documents on time.

Now, my loan is past due, which is negatively impacting my credit score. I can’t purchase a new vehicle until this issue is resolved, but neither Santander nor SafeGuard is providing any answers regarding the delay. This situation is incredibly frustrating!

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about the difficulties you’re facing with your GAP claim and the impact it’s having on your credit and ability to get a new vehicle. It’s frustrating when you’ve done everything required of you, but you’re still waiting for a resolution. Here are a few suggestions that might help you move things along:

    1. Contact GAP Provider Directly: If you haven’t already, reach out to SafeGuard directly and ask for a supervisor or an escalation team member. Sometimes, going higher up can speed things up.

    2. Document Everything: Keep a record of all communications with both Santander and SafeGuard, including dates, times, and the names of the representatives you spoke with. This can be helpful if you need to escalate your complaint.

    3. Get Written Confirmation: Request written confirmation of your claim status and any reasons provided for the delay. This can help create a paper trail to show that you’ve been proactive in resolving the issue.

    4. File a Complaint: If you’re not getting anywhere, consider filing a complaint with your state’s insurance commissioner and the Better Business Bureau. Sometimes, this can prompt a quicker response.

    5. Consider Legal Advice: If the situation doesn’t improve, you might want to consult with a legal expert who specializes in consumer rights. They may be able to provide more tailored advice based on your specific circumstances.

    6. Credit Reporting Agencies: Since the loan is affecting your credit, it might be worth reaching out to the credit reporting agencies to explain the situation. They may be able to note the delay while you resolve the claim.

I hope you get this settled soon so you can put this behind you and get back on the road!
