Got rear ended by a truck

I was rear-ended by a truck on my way home from work. I was really shaken and primarily concerned about checking for injuries, so I didn’t take any pictures of the truck or the accident scene. My car has significant damage to the rear, but I managed to drive it to the service center. Will not having photos be a problem for my insurance claim? Thankfully, I have RTI in case of a total loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your accident; that sounds really stressful. While having photos of the scene can definitely strengthen your insurance claim, not having them isn’t a deal-breaker. Here are a few things you can do:

    1. Document Everything: Write down all the details you can remember about the incident, including the time, location, the truck’s description, and any witness information.

    2. Gather Evidence: If there were any witnesses, see if you can get their contact information. You can also check if there are any traffic cameras in the area that might have recorded the accident.

    3. Insurance Report: Report the accident to your insurance company as soon as possible. Be honest about the lack of photos but make sure to provide them with as much other information as you can.

    4. Get a Repair Estimate: Since your car is damaged, getting an estimate from the service center can help your claim.

    5. Consider Police Reports: If a police report was filed, it may serve as helpful evidence in your claim.

    6. RTI Coverage: Since you have RTI (Replacement Transportation Insurance), keep that in mind as it can help cover costs while your car is being repaired.

Your insurance company is used to handling claims with varying degrees of evidence, so just be clear and prompt in your communication with them. I hope you recover quickly and get things sorted!
