Minor Accident Possible Trouble

Minor Accident Inquiry

I was involved in a minor accident where there were no traffic violations. The other person’s bumper was just popped out of place, likely a $100 fix, maybe needing a repaint. I didn’t provide my insurance information to the police on the scene, but I did give them my contact details. I haven’t heard back yet. My mom is planning to add me to her insurance, and I’m wondering if they will inform her about this accident. I was also in a more serious accident afterward, but the adjuster didn’t mention anything about the minor one. I need help ASAP; she’s asking for my driver’s license number. Thanks!

  1. It’s understandable to feel stressed after an accident, even a minor one. Here are some points to consider:

    1. Reporting to Insurance: Typically, insurance companies will ask about any accidents when you are added to a policy. Since you were involved in an accident, it’s best to inform your mom’s insurance company about it, especially since it was reported to the police, even if there was no formal report filed by the other driver.

    2. Police Report: Since the police were involved, they may still have a record of the accident, which could potentially impact your future insurance rates, even if it was minor. It’s always good to be transparent about any incidents, as insurance fraud or omission could lead to issues down the line.

    3. Adjuster Information: Insurance adjusters generally have access to information about recent accidents, but if the accident was small and didn’t involve a claim from the other driver, it might not have been on their radar. However, it’s wise to disclose this information.

    4. Driver’s License Number: Providing your driver’s license number to your mom is standard when being added to her insurance policy. Just make sure she’s aware of the accident to ensure everything is accurately covered.

    5. Future Prevention: Moving forward, consider keeping documentation of any incidents, even minor ones, for your records. This can help clarify situations down the line.

If you’re unsure about the specifics, it may be wise to consult with your mom or an insurance professional for personalized advice.
