New vehicle replacement

New Vehicle Replacement Concern

I have a 2022 Tesla Model Y that I purchased in September 2022. For the last two years, my insurance policy included new car replacement coverage, which I understand is typically available only for the first two years of ownership.

Unfortunately, my car suffered damage due to a branch falling on it, impacting both A pillars. Although the adjuster hasn’t looked at it yet since it’s the weekend, I have a feeling it might be deemed a total loss. To complicate matters, my policy just renewed SIX days ago, and the new car replacement coverage is no longer included—not by my choice, but likely because of the vehicle’s age.

My question is: is there any possibility that the insurance company might consider replacing my car on good faith given that my policy just expired less than a week ago? Or should I just prepare for a payout based on the car being totaled, assuming the damages are extensive? I’m seeking any insights you might have. Thanks!

This is an Allstate policy.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about the damage to your Tesla Y. It’s definitely a tough situation, especially with the timing of your policy renewal. Generally, new car replacement coverage does indeed expire after a certain period, and insurers tend to be strict about those terms.

However, since your policy was renewed just six days before the accident, you might have a case for arguing the situation. It’s worth contacting your insurance agent or AllState claims representative directly to explain your circumstances and ask if they can make an exception. They may consider the short time since renewal and your good faith as a loyal customer, especially if you have a clean claims history.

That said, it ultimately depends on the policies of AllState and the discretion of the adjuster handling your claim. Make sure to gather any documentation you might need, and also be prepared for the possibility that you could be looking at a payout instead of a replacement, especially if the car is indeed totaled.

Good luck, and I hope you get a favorable outcome!
