Scope of work clarity not provided

Lack of Clarity on Scope of Work

Hi everyone! I’m currently navigating an ongoing claim related to a house fire. We opted for an insurance-approved contractor for the restoration, and he has just sent us an estimate. My question is: do we, as the insured, have the right to request the initial scope of work submitted by the contractor, or is that information limited to the adjuster and contractor? It feels like we’re in the dark while the adjuster and contractor discuss the scope of work.

  1. Hello! I’m sorry to hear about your situation. As the insured, you do have the right to request information about the scope of work from your contractor, including the initial assessment submitted to the insurance adjuster. Being informed about the details of the restoration process is important for you to understand what repairs are necessary and how they will be executed.

Here are a few steps you can take:

    1. Request a Meeting: Reach out to the contractor and the adjuster to request a meeting or a detailed explanation of the scope of work. This can often clear up any confusion and provide you with insights into the restoration process.

    2. Document Communication: Keep a record of all communications you have regarding the claim. This can be helpful if there are discrepancies or issues that arise later.

    3. Review Your Policy: Check your insurance policy for any clauses related to your rights as an insured party, especially concerning communication and information regarding claims.

    4. Contact Your Insurance Company: If you’re still having issues getting the information you need, consider contacting your insurance company directly and asking for assistance in obtaining the scope of work.

It’s essential that you feel comfortable and informed about the restoration process, so don’t hesitate to advocate for your right to be involved. Good luck with your claim!
