State Farm vs Allstate claims processing

State Farm vs. Allstate Claims Processing

Recently, I was rear-ended by an Allstate customer while I was insured by State Farm. Uncertain about the coverage limits with Allstate and eager to utilize my PIP benefits through State Farm, I decided to file my claim with them. Looking back, this was a poor choice.

Allstate has been exceptional in managing my claim, despite the fact that I’m not their customer. They reimbursed me for 21 days of rental car expenses within just two days of receiving my receipt, and their responsiveness via email and phone has been impressive.

In stark contrast, my experience with State Farm has been extremely frustrating. I’ve encountered some of the worst customer service I’ve ever faced. They’ve completely ignored my emails, and when I call, I’m repeatedly directed to frontline representatives who lack the necessary knowledge and simply submit requests or tickets to actual claims handlers. As a result, my medical bills are unpaid and have gone to collections, the hospital claim remains unresolved, and any subrogation related to the vehicle damage is lost in the system, awaiting attention from one of the elusive claims handlers I can’t reach.

This is my first claim with State Farm after over 30 years as a policyholder, and I feel like I’m being treated as an afterthought. Meanwhile, Allstate, with whom I don’t have a customer relationship, has been incredibly prompt and efficient.

It’s really disheartening to see such a decline in State Farm’s service quality. I’m at a loss for how to get them to respond and fulfill their responsibilities, except perhaps filing a complaint with the Insurance Commission. Is this the current state of affairs with State Farm?

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with State Farm’s claims processing. It can be incredibly stressful when you’re dealing with the aftermath of an accident, and poor customer service from your own insurer only adds to that burden. It sounds like Allstate has been proactive and efficient in handling their end of the claim, while State Farm has fallen short in providing the support you need.

If you’re considering escalating the issue, filing a complaint with the state insurance commission could be a viable step, as it may prompt a quicker response from State Farm. Additionally, you might want to try reaching out to a supervisor or asking for a claims manager when you call. Documenting your interactions, including dates and times of your communications, can also be helpful if you need to escalate the situation further.

It’s important to advocate for yourself during such times, and hopefully, you’ll be able to get the resolution you need soon. Best of luck, and I hope State Farm improves its response for you!
