Type 1 Diabetes & Health Insurance in Ohio for Married Couples
I’m curious if anyone has found a budget-friendly health insurance option in Ohio. I was on Medicaid, but they removed me a few months ago. Now, I’m stuck with a marketplace plan through United Healthcare, and it’s been a challenge to manage the costs while trying to live my life!
I use Omnipod and Dexcom G7, but the coverage for those devices is minimal. Would it be beneficial to explore separate insurance options from my spouse, or should we stick with the same plan? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
I totally understand the frustration of managing Type 1 diabetes while also navigating health insurance options—it’s a tough balance.
In Ohio, there are a few things you might consider:
Marketplace Plans: Since you’re on the healthcare marketplace, you might want to explore different plan options during the enrollment period. Some plans may offer better coverage for your Omnipod and Dexcom G7. Look for plans with lower deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums that specifically cover diabetes supplies more comprehensively.
Medicaid Re-evaluation: If your situation has changed (like income, household size, etc.), it may be worth re-evaluating your eligibility for Medicaid, especially since Ohio has expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. This could provide you with more affordable coverage.
Separate Insurance: It may be beneficial to compare the insurance options available to your spouse. Sometimes, one spouse’s plan can offer better coverage for certain medical needs. Evaluate the premium costs, deductibles, and what diabetes services and supplies each plan covers.
Financial Assistance Programs: Check if the manufacturers of your diabetes supplies (like Omnipod and Dexcom) offer any financial assistance programs. They often have programs to help cover out-of-pocket costs if you’re eligible.
Local Resources: Consider reaching out to local diabetes support groups or organizations in Ohio. They might have valuable information on insurance options and personal experiences that could help you make the best choice.
It’s definitely worth doing your research on various options and what works best for your financial and health needs. Good luck, and I hope you find a solution that makes managing your diabetes a little easier!
