Looking for bike valet insurance

Seeking Insurance for Bike Valet Events

Hello everyone! I’m part of a volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for pedestrians and bicyclists in our urban community.

We have successfully hosted a bike valet service at our local farmers market, providing a safe place for attendees to park their bikes while they shop. This initiative has been a fantastic way to connect with the community and promote our mission. However, we recently learned that our current insurance policy no longer covers this type of event. After contacting several other insurance providers, we’ve faced similar rejections.

As a temporary measure, we considered asking participants to sign waivers before parking their bikes, but our board is hesitant about this approach.

Does anyone know of an insurance company that might be willing to provide coverage for bike valet services? Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Hello! It’s great to hear about your commitment to supporting pedestrians and cyclists in your community. Finding insurance for events like bike valet can indeed be a challenge, especially for non-profits. Here are a few suggestions you might consider:

    1. Specialized Insurance Providers: Look for insurance companies that specialize in non-profit or event insurance. Companies like Event Insurance, Hiscox, or CoverWallet might have offerings that suit your needs.

    2. Local Insurance Brokers: Sometimes local brokers have access to niche markets that aren’t available through standard channels. They might know of providers who can cover biking events specifically.

    3. Contact Cycling Advocacy Organizations: Reach out to state or national bicycle advocacy organizations such as the League of American Bicyclists or the International Mountain Bicycling Association. They may have recommendations for insurance providers familiar with bike valet events.

    4. Collaborate with Local Businesses: Sometimes, partnering with local bike shops or community organizations can help spread the risk. They may have insurance or can help you find someone willing to cover the event.

    5. Consider Event Insurance: If your bike valet is part of a larger event, consider obtaining a general event insurance policy that includes coverage for various activities, which may encompass bike valet services.

    6. Explore Umbrella Policies: Some organizations have umbrella insurance policies that can cover additional activities not included in standard policies.

It’s understandable that your board is hesitant about waivers, but they can be a helpful risk management tool if you can find a balance. Hopefully, one of these avenues will lead you to the insurance coverage you need. Good luck with your efforts!
