Damage to Rental Car Due to Storm
Hi everyone, I need some advice. I was recently involved in a rear-end collision, and the other driver’s insurance is covering my rental car while mine is being repaired. Unfortunately, during a strong storm, I parked the rental under a carport to protect it, but a tree branch broke and hit the rear driver’s side door.
Can anyone help me figure out whose insurance is responsible for this damage? Is it Enterprise’s, my home insurance, or my car insurance? Thanks!
In this situation, the coverage for the damage to the rental car can depend on several factors. Here are some points to consider:
Enterprise Rental Car Insurance: If you purchased any additional insurance coverage when renting the car from Enterprise, that coverage may apply to the damage. It’s important to check the terms of that policy.
Personal Auto Insurance: If your own car insurance policy includes rental car coverage, it might cover the damage. You should review your policy or contact your insurer to confirm if you have rental car coverage and what it entails.
Homeowners Insurance: Typically, homeowners insurance does not cover damage to vehicles, but you could check with your insurer to see if there are any provisions that might apply in this unique situation.
Liability from the Other Driver’s Insurance: Since the other party’s insurance is covering the rental because of the accident, you may want to see if they are liable for damages incurred during the rental period, since it happened unexpectedly due to a storm.
Ultimately, the best course of action is to contact Enterprise to report the damage and to inform your insurance companies about the incident. They’ll be able to guide you on the next steps and which insurance will cover the costs.
