Guy hit my parked car and my car is uninsured/unregistered

Someone backed into my parked car at a gas station today, and unfortunately, my car isn’t registered and I don’t have insurance. The other driver does have insurance. What should I do next?

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your accident. Since the other driver has insurance, you should contact their insurance company to report the incident and file a claim. It’s important to document everything related to the accident, including taking photos of the damage and getting a copy of the police report (if there is one).

However, since your car is uninsured and unregistered, there are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. Insurance Claim: You may still be able to file a claim with the other driver’s insurance for the damage to your car. Be honest about your situation when discussing with them.

    2. Registration: You should consider registering your vehicle and getting it insured as soon as possible to avoid complications in the future.

    3. Legal Implications: Depending on your local laws, driving an uninsured or unregistered vehicle may lead to legal penalties. It might be wise to consult with a legal expert to understand what potential consequences you could face.

    4. Repairs: If the claim is accepted, their insurance should cover the repair costs for your vehicle, even though it was unregistered and uninsured at the time of the accident.

Make sure to maintain all communication regarding the accident and keep records of any claims or conversations with the insurance companies. Good luck!
