lapse of coverage with Geico

Coverage Gap with Geico

I’m filling out Geico’s application, and it asks how long I’ve gone without a lapse in coverage. The only option available is 11 years. Since I’ve never owned a car and have never experienced a coverage lapse, should I just select the 11-year option? I’ve had periods where I didn’t own a car (I either used a company vehicle or relied on public transportation), but my understanding is that a lapse in coverage occurs when you own a car and aren’t insured.

Thanks for your help!

  1. It sounds like you’re trying to clarify how to answer the question about lapse of coverage on Geico’s application. You’re correct that a “lapse in coverage” typically refers to a situation where someone has owned a vehicle but did not have insurance during that time. Since you have never owned a car and have not experienced any lapsed coverage, selecting the 11 years option should be appropriate for your situation.

In this case, it’s best to indicate the longest period you’ve had continuous coverage, even if you haven’t owned a car. If you’re feeling unsure or want to be certain you’re providing the right information, you could also consider reaching out to Geico directly for guidance or clarification on your specific circumstances.
