Seeking Bike Valet Insurance
Hi everyone! I manage a volunteer non-profit dedicated to advocating for pedestrians and cyclists in our urban community.
We’ve been running a bike valet service at the farmers market for quite some time, providing a safe place for cyclists to park their bikes while they shop. This initiative has been a fantastic outreach opportunity for us. However, we’ve recently learned from our insurance provider that our current policy no longer covers this type of event. We’ve reached out to various insurance companies, but unfortunately, they have also declined coverage.
The only alternative we have considered is asking participants to sign waivers before using the bike valet, but our board is hesitant about that approach.
Does anyone know of an insurance company that would be willing to cover bike valet services? We would truly appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!
Hi there! It sounds like you’re doing important work for your community, and I can understand the challenge you’re facing with insurance for your bike valet event. While I can’t recommend a specific insurance company, I can provide some ideas that might help you in your search:
Specialized Insurance Providers: Look for insurers that specialize in event coverage or non-profit organizations. They may be more familiar with situations like yours and can better assess the risks involved.
Local or Regional Insurance Agents: Sometimes, local agents have access to niche markets that larger companies may not provide. They might find you a policy that covers bike valet services.
Event-Specific Insurance: Consider looking into event insurance providers that offer short-term policies for specific events. Some of these companies cater to community events and may be more accommodating to your needs.
Bicycle Advocacy Organizations: Reach out to other advocacy groups or non-profits in your area or nationally. They might have experience with similar events and could recommend their insurance providers.
Membership Benefits: Check if any memberships you hold (e.g., local chambers of commerce or bike advocacy groups) offer insurance benefits or can refer you to companies that do.
Liability Protections: As a last resort, if you end up needing waivers, consider developing conversations around why the waiver is in place—focusing on safety and ensuring a positive experience.
I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck in finding the right insurance coverage for your event!
