Will another insurance company report issues to my current insurance for our house?

Will another insurance company notify my current insurer about issues with my house?

My current insurance hasn’t sent anyone out to inspect my roof, so they’re still claiming it’s in poor condition, even though there are no missing shingles. We’re currently paying around $500 a month for coverage on two older Hondas and our older home.

We chose this company because most others declined us since the house was built in 1956 and has been remodeled. I’m wondering if I get an inspection or estimate from another company and they find something wrong, will that be reported to my current insurer and risk cancellation? This is in Texas.

  1. It’s understandable to be concerned about how insurance companies communicate with each other, especially regarding your home and vehicles. In general, insurance companies do not routinely share information with each other; however, if you have a claim or submit an estimate suggesting a significant issue (like a roof in disrepair), it may trigger a review by your current insurer.

If you obtain an estimate that indicates issues with your roof, and you choose to report that to your insurance company, they may send someone out to inspect the roof themselves. If they find problems, it could potentially impact your coverage. In Texas, insurers are not allowed to cancel your policy solely based on the age of your house, but they can decline to renew it if they find issues that pose a greater risk.

It might be a good idea to consult with a trusted roofing contractor first to get a full understanding of your roof’s condition. If everything is in good shape, you may not need to worry about reporting anything to your insurer right away. Additionally, consider discussing your situation with an insurance agent or a professional who understands Texas insurance laws to get clearer guidance on your options.
