Can I sign up with Direct Auto if I owe All State money?

Can I enroll with Direct Auto if I still owe money to Allstate? I was with Allstate for around a year, but they doubled my rates and I chose not to renew. I still owe them about $115. After that, I went to another company, but they increased my rates again, even though I left Allstate in good standing. Now, I’m looking to sign up for Direct Auto because I received a great quote. However, I noticed that it says “An Allstate brand” on the payment page. If I sign up, will there be any issues like a potential cancellation?

  1. It’s understandable to be cautious about signing up with a company that’s affiliated with your previous insurer. Here are a few points to consider:

    1. Debt Impact: Typically, insurance companies don’t check for debts owed to other companies when you apply for a new policy. However, it’s always a good idea to settle any outstanding balances if possible, as it could help improve your credit score and future insurance rates.

    2. Affiliation with Allstate: Even though Direct Auto is part of the Allstate family, this doesn’t automatically mean they will cancel your policy due to your past debt with Allstate. They will likely treat each application and customer individually.

    3. Disclosure: If you’re concerned, you might want to contact Direct Auto directly to explain your situation and ask about their policies regarding prior debts with Allstate. They can provide clear guidance.

    4. Credit Check: Be aware that some insurers may perform a credit check, which could indirectly reflect any outstanding debts.

Overall, it seems worth trying to sign up for the policy, especially if you’ve received a good quote. Just make sure to keep communication open with them to avoid any potential issues. Good luck!
