Insurer Responds with Their List of Defendants to Victim
I recently submitted an insurance claim against a nonprofit because their IT vendor embezzled my wages. The insurer replied, stating that they cannot disclose their client’s insurance details to me. However, they did include a list of the two employees they’re defending, along with the names of the two professional liability insurance companies and two corporate fraud attorneys in their cc response.
Is this standard practice, or did the insurer mistakenly include the thief and their team in the communication?
It’s not typical for an insurer to include the defendants or their representatives in the communication regarding a claim – especially if that information isn’t supposed to be disclosed. This situation could be a simple oversight, or it may be a misunderstanding of what information can be shared. Generally, sensitive information about defendants in a claim should be handled with more confidentiality, particularly in matters involving fraud or embezzlement.
If you feel comfortable, it might be worth following up with the insurer to clarify how they handle such communications and to express any concerns about privacy or confidentiality. Additionally, consulting with a legal professional could help in determining your next steps and ensuring your interests are properly protected in this situation.
