Vision Insurance Inquiry
Hi everyone! I recently received vision insurance through my job, and I’m trying to understand the coverage details. It states the following about frame benefits: “Plan pays 100%, $125 allowance, 20% off balance over $125.”
So, does this mean that I can get frames that cost up to $125 without any out-of-pocket expenses? Or am I misunderstanding it? The wording is a bit confusing. Thanks for your help!
Hi there! The wording can definitely be a bit confusing. What your vision insurance plan means is that you have a $125 allowance for frames. This means that the insurance will cover 100% of the cost of frames up to $125.
If you choose frames that cost more than $125, you will have to pay the difference. For example, if the frames you select cost $150, your insurance will cover $125, and you would pay the remaining $25. Additionally, you would get a 20% discount on that overage. So in this case, you’d pay 20% of the $25, which is $5.
In total, you would end up paying $30 for those $150 frames ($25 overage + $5 discount). Hope that clears things up!
