Car accident insurance question

Car Accident Insurance Inquiry

I’m in Tennessee, and my parked car was hit by someone else. The police came to the scene, and she admitted fault.

Now, ten days later, her insurance (a well-known company) claims they can’t get in touch with her. If I decide to have my insurance cover the repair costs and then pursue reimbursement from her insurance, will that lead to an increase in my premiums?

Her insurance indicated they would give her another week to respond, so the total timeline now stretches to about three weeks.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your accident. In Tennessee, if you file a claim with your insurance company for damages caused by someone else, they may pursue reimbursement from the at-fault driver’s insurance. This is known as “subrogation.”

As for whether your rates will go up, it can depend on several factors. Typically, if you’re not at fault and your insurance pays for the repairs, many companies will not penalize you with a rate increase. However, every insurance company is different, and their policies can vary regarding claims.

It would be a good idea to check with your insurance agent about their specific policies. They can also guide you on the best course of action based on your situation. Additionally, you might want to keep a record of all communications with both insurance companies for your reference.
