Car likely totaled

Car Likely Totaled

I was rear-ended on the highway, and it was clearly the other party’s fault. They even admitted liability to their insurance company right in front of me. At the time of the accident, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be, but it appears my car is likely totaled.

I still owe about $3,000 on it, and I believe its value is around $4,500 to $5,500 based on various online estimates.

How likely is it that their insurance (Geico) will try to undercut the payout? I just want enough to cover the loan and make a down payment on a used car. I’m concerned that I might end up in a worse situation after all this.

Update: I didn’t get low-balled! I’ll be able to pay off the loan and make a down payment on a better vehicle. 😊

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your accident, but I’m glad to hear that you’re on track to get a fair settlement! It’s always concerning when dealing with insurance companies, especially after an accident.

Since the other party admitted fault and you have their insurance involved, you should have a strong case for getting a settlement that covers your outstanding loan and allows for a down payment on another vehicle. Geico typically has a good reputation for handling claims fairly, but it’s still wise to be prepared.

Here are a few tips to ensure you get a fair offer:

    1. Document Everything: Keep records of your damages, repair estimates, and any communication you’ve had with the insurance adjuster.

    2. Know the Value: Use multiple sources to establish the market value of your car, including Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, or NADA Guides. This gives you a solid basis for negotiation.

    3. Negotiate: If their initial offer seems low, don’t hesitate to negotiate. Present your research and make your case for a higher amount based on your car’s value.

    4. Consult an Expert: If you’re feeling overwhelmed, consider speaking with an attorney or a claims adjuster who can help navigate the process.

It’s great to hear that you’re feeling more confident about the outcome. Best of luck with everything, and I hope you find a great replacement vehicle soon!
