Claiming back £550 excess in non fault accident

Requesting £550 Excess Refund for Non-Fault Accident

I’m happy to share that my car insurance has settled my recent accident (where another driver collided with my parked car). They provided me with the contact details for the other party’s insurance, so I can recover the £550 excess I paid to the repair garage. I’ve sent over the necessary receipts and documentation to the other party’s insurance, but it’s been more than two weeks and I haven’t received any response.

Is it common for this process to take a while? How long should I realistically expect to wait for a reply?

  1. It’s great to hear that your insurance has settled the claim for the accident. When it comes to getting your excess refunded from the other party’s insurance, the process can sometimes take a bit longer than expected. Generally, many insurance companies aim to respond to claims within a few weeks, but delays can happen due to various reasons, such as high case volumes or needing additional information.

Since it’s been over two weeks with no response, I would recommend following up with the other party’s insurance. You can either call their claims department or send a polite follow-up email referencing your initial submission and asking for an update on the status of your reimbursement.

In terms of reasonable wait times, if you don’t hear back within another week or so, it’s perfectly acceptable to continue following up regularly. Persistence can often help speed things along!
