Credit Card Insurance Inquiry

Hello! I recently rented a car and noticed a crack upon returning it. I filed a claim with my credit card insurance, but they informed me that they’d only cover up to my personal car insurance deductible. Is this standard practice, or should they be responsible for covering the full damage amount? Thanks for your help!

  1. Hi! It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating situation. Generally, credit card rental car insurance policies can vary significantly between providers. Many credit cards offer coverage for damage to rental cars, but it’s common for them to only cover costs up to your personal auto insurance deductible if you have claimed through your main insurance.

It’s important to read the terms and conditions of your specific credit card’s rental car insurance policy, as some cards may offer full coverage while others won’t cover certain types of damages or will have limitations.

If you’re uncertain, I recommend contacting your credit card company directly to clarify their policy details. Additionally, reviewing your personal car insurance policy could provide insights into how your coverage interacts with your credit card benefits. Good luck!
