Question About My Progressive Windshield Claim
Hi everyone!
I made a mistake while getting a quote for a windshield replacement from Safelite—I accidentally entered my auto insurance information. I know, I should have been more careful! I was trying to compare out-of-pocket costs with insurance.
I’ve decided to pay for the replacement myself.
However, since Safelite has already notified Progressive and started a claim, should I just go through my insurance? I’m worried this might impact my premium.
Just a lesson learned for me! Thanks in advance for any advice.
Hey there!
First off, don’t be too hard on yourself—it’s a common situation when you’re trying to compare options. Since a claim has already been initiated, you generally have a couple of choices:
Proceed with Insurance: If you go this route, your insurance will handle the claim, and you’ll likely have to pay your deductible (if applicable). It might be worth checking if your windshield replacement is covered without a deductible, as some policies have that benefit for glass claims. Just keep in mind that even if you don’t end up paying out of pocket, the claim could potentially affect your premium.
Cancel the Claim: You can reach out to Progressive and Safelite to explain that you will be paying out of pocket instead and ask them to cancel the claim. Be sure to confirm that doing so won’t negatively impact your insurance record.
Ultimately, it may depend on how Progressive handles inquiries and claims. I’d recommend calling them directly and explaining the situation—most companies will be understanding.
Good luck, and hopefully, this all gets sorted out smoothly!
