So advice please

I could really use some advice right now. I’m beyond frustrated. I finally got my vehicle back last week after it being in the shop for over a month, and it’s driving rough. The issues they claimed to fix on the itemized list haven’t been addressed at all. When I confronted the mechanic, he told me to come in so we could go over everything together. I blasted him for being dishonest and potentially defrauding my insurance. I decided to wait until Monday to go back.

Tonight, after leaving the gym, I noticed that my gear shifter is now taller and missing the side button—the plastic that used to have sections is now completely flat. I can’t help but wonder what else might be wrong and how I can prove it. I haven’t contacted my insurance yet, but that’s definitely next on my list. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. It sounds incredibly frustrating to deal with shoddy repairs and what seems like dishonesty on their part. Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Document Everything: Take detailed photos of the issues with your car, including the gear shifter and any other problems you notice. Keep records of all communications with the repair shop and your insurance company.

    2. Review the Repair Agreement: Check your initial agreement or estimate from the repair shop. If they didn’t complete the work they promised, you have a strong case.

    3. Communicate Clearly: When you go back to the shop on Monday, clearly outline all the concerns you have and reference the itemized list they provided.

    4. Involve Your Insurance: Since you’re planning to inform your insurance, make sure to provide them with all the documentation, including your conversations with the repair shop, photos, and any receipts.

    5. Consider a Third Party: If you feel that the situation isn’t resolved after speaking with them, consider getting a second opinion from another mechanic or a professional inspection service.

    6. File a Complaint: If necessary, you might want to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or your local consumer protection agency, especially if they refuse to take responsibility.

    7. Legal Advice: Depending on how severe the situation is, you may want to consult with a legal professional.

It’s important to stand up for yourself in these situations. I hope you get this resolved quickly!
