Insuring a Audi S4 vs Mustang

Title: Insuring an Audi S4 vs. Mustang – Need Advice!

Hey everyone,

I’m 22 and contemplating whether to get a 2010+ Audi S4 or possibly an A4. Alternatively, I’m also considering a 2000-2004 New Edge Mustang. However, I have a bit of a history—I’ve received three reckless driving tickets from my previous 2004 Mustang, all within a two-month period. This caused my license to be suspended for nearly two years.

I previously insured the Mustang with Erie, and my premium was around $160 before the convictions. Given my situation, what might I expect for insurance on either the S4 or the Mustang now?

I could reach out to my insurance agent, but I thought I’d get some insights from Reddit first.

Thanks for any help!

  1. When it comes to insuring a car with a history of reckless driving tickets, there are a few factors to consider. Generally, sports cars like the Audi S4 and the Mustang tend to have higher insurance premiums, especially for younger drivers with a record.

For the Audi S4, being a luxury performance vehicle, you might expect higher rates due to the car’s value, repair costs, and the potential for higher claims. However, your driving record could make the underwriting process even more complicated.

On the other hand, the New Edge Mustang, while also a performance car, may be slightly cheaper to insure than the Audi, depending on the specific model and your location. Nevertheless, your history of reckless driving would likely keep both premiums on the higher end compared to someone without those tickets.

Since you’ve had three reckless driving incidents, insurance companies might classify you as a high-risk driver, which can significantly spike your rates. You could be looking anywhere from $200 to $400 per month for insurance, but this is highly variable based on your provider, coverage options, and the specific vehicle you choose.

Ultimately, it would be best to get quotes from multiple insurance companies to see what you can expect for both vehicles. Some companies may offer better rates for high-risk drivers, so it’s worth shopping around. Good luck!
