NC auto insurance question

Question about NC auto insurance:

My 22-year-old daughter hasn’t obtained her driver’s license and doesn’t own a car. However, the insurance company told me we can’t remove her from our policy. Is this correct? I’ve searched online but can’t find any clear information.

  1. In North Carolina, if your daughter is still listed as a driver on your insurance policy, the insurance company may require her to remain covered, especially if she lives in your household, even if she doesn’t own a car or have a driver’s license. This is often because insurers want to mitigate the risk of uninsured drivers in the household.

However, if she is not going to be driving at all and poses no risk as a driver, you might want to speak with your insurance agent directly about potentially removing her from the policy. Some companies may have specific rules about removing a non-licensed, non-car-owning household member.

It’s also worth asking about any possible discounts or adjustments that might apply in your situation. If you’re not satisfied with their response, consider shopping around or getting quotes from other insurance companies that might better fit your family’s needs.
