Running tap caused flooding

Subject: Need Help with Insurance Claim for Flooding Incident

Hi everyone,

I accidentally caused my bathroom to flood because I left the sink tap running while dealing with a slow-draining sink.

Unfortunately, it seems that my insurance policy doesn’t cover this situation. I’m hesitant to file a claim if it might raise my premiums, especially since I’m unsure about the validity of the claim.

Is human error, such as leaving a tap running, typically excluded from coverage? I’m not sure whether this falls under accidental damage or if it’s just considered my mistake.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

  1. Hi there,

I’m really sorry to hear about your bathroom flooding; that sounds frustrating. Typically, insurance policies vary greatly, but many do have specific clauses regarding accidental damage. Sometimes, human error can be covered, but it really depends on your policy and the circumstances.

If your policy includes accidental damage coverage, you may have a case for filing a claim. However, as you mentioned, making a claim for something that might be seen as negligence (like leaving the tap running) could impact your premiums.

It might be helpful to contact your insurance provider directly to ask about how they define accidental damage in your situation. They can give you a clearer idea of whether your claim might be worthwhile or if it’s better to handle the expenses out of pocket to avoid potential premium increases.

In the meantime, you might also want to look into solutions for preventing this kind of accident in the future, like setting timers or using tap control devices.

Best of luck, and I hope you can resolve the situation soon!
