Two recent at fault incidents recently

I’ve had two at-fault incidents recently, which is quite surprising for me. I’m 58 years old and haven’t had any at-fault accidents since I was a teenager—other than a bike crash while avoiding an oncoming car.

I have a clean record with zero points, but in December 2024 and February 2025, things changed. I misjudged the traffic rules at a roundabout, and then I accidentally backed into my wife’s car. The total cost for all damages came to approximately $8,000, though I chose not to file a claim for the damage to my pickup.

To my surprise, my insurance premium increased from $460 for a six-month policy to $750. I’m wondering if I should consider shopping around for a better rate. I currently have coverage through Costco via AmFam, and previously I was with Connect Insurance. What do you think?

  1. It sounds like you’ve had a tough couple of months with those incidents, especially after having such a clean record for so long. With the increase in your premium from $460 to $750, it might be a good idea to shop around and compare rates from other insurers. Insurance companies weigh factors differently, and you might find a better deal elsewhere.

Consider reaching out to other providers to see what they can offer you, especially since you have a long history of safe driving apart from these recent incidents. You could also ask your current insurer if they can offer any discounts or options to lower your premium, given your clean record prior to these incidents.

Make sure to review the coverage details for any new policies you consider. Sometimes a lower premium may mean less coverage, so it’s essential to balance cost with the protection you need.

    Good luck!
