Landlord as additional insured on renters insurance

Landlord as Additional Insured on Renter’s Insurance

My landlord has informed me that they require being listed as an “additional insured” on my renter’s insurance policy, rather than just an “interested party,” as stated in our lease agreement. However, I’ve found that Geico, State Farm, and Citizens don’t offer this option. Can anyone recommend insurance companies that do allow landlords to be listed this way?

Thanks in advance!

  1. It’s not uncommon for landlords to require tenants to list them as “additional insured” on their renters insurance policies to provide an extra layer of protection. However, as you’ve discovered, not all insurance companies allow this option.

Here are some companies that typically allow landlords to be listed as additional insured:

    1. Farmers Insurance: They usually accommodate this request, so it might be worth contacting them.
    2. Progressive: They are known for flexible options regarding additional insured status.
    3. Liberty Mutual: You can often get them to add your landlord as an additional insured.
    4. Allstate: They may also allow for this arrangement, depending on the specific policy terms.
    5. USAA: If you are eligible, they also provide options for adding landlords as additional insured.

It’s always best to discuss this directly with the insurance provider to understand their specific policies. You may need to adjust your coverage or switch providers to meet your landlord’s requirements. Good luck!
